So armed with towels and sunblock, off to the sea .... The long, clean white beach at Canoa is totally unspoilt. The relaxed old-world atmosphere of the village continues down to the water's edge. The only constructions on the beach are "barracas" - beach bars made from natural materials with palm rooves. Here you can get a drink and relax on a sunlounger. There are also simple showers. Alternatively you can find your own secluded spot and watch the "jagarandas" - the local sailboats used by fishermen - in perfect peace. Brazilians are naturally friendly and may offer you freshly caught fish, ideal for a beach barbeque. There are many exotic drinks to try, a huge variety of fruit juices, fresh coconut milk and the local specialty - a potent pineapple punch! The beach has something for everyone. The sea is safe and you can always swim. For the kids, a calm and shallow natural lagoon, formed by a sandbar is perfect for playing in. There's plenty to see too. You will surely see young Brazilians practising "capoeirea" - the Brazilian martial art that looks like dancing. You can also see people riding horses, keeping fit with acrobatics or paragliding in the distance. |
Brazilians are famous for their hospitality. At night, join the beach parties under the moon and stars and enjoy a drink or a dance to the swinging forro sound, or sometimes live music.
